Ready for a week filled with joyful movement and creative expression? Our dynamic camp program blends the calming practice of yoga with the energetic fun of dance, perfectly tailored for young movers and shakers aged 5 to 9!
We believe that learning is most effective when it's engaging and fun. That's why our carefully designed curriculum incorporates repetition to build foundational skills while introducing exciting variety to keep imaginations soaring.
Each day offers a delightful blend:
- Yoga Journey (40 minutes): We'll embark on mindful adventures through yoga! Each session begins with our Sun Salutation, a wonderful way to warm up our bodies. We'll explore how yoga helps us find inner calm and build strength, transforming ourselves into different shapes, animals, and objects. Expect playful poses like the alligator, elephant, gorilla, and cheetah! We'll always end our yoga practice with a peaceful rest (savasana) and a heartfelt "Namaste" to thank our fellow yogis.
- Creative Break & Themed Project: Following yoga, we'll dive into a fun, hands-on project connected to the day's theme, bridging the worlds of yoga and dance.
- Dance Adventure (60 minutes): Get ready to groove! Our dance sessions will introduce a variety of styles and techniques. We'll leap, jump, and twirl our way through exciting combinations and learn to express ourselves through movement.
Tuesday: What is Yoga?! / Jump, Hip-Hop, and Leap!
- Yoga: We'll explore the amazing benefits of yoga and practice fun zoo animal poses.
- Craft: Create your very own Favorite Yoga Animal Mask!
- Dance: Learn a variety of exciting leaps (kitty leaps, split leaps) and jumps (bunny hops, X jumps) and get your groove on with some hip(ity)-hop moves!

- Craft: Design your own magical Disney Crown!
- Dance: We'll plié, tendu, and echappé to beloved Disney tunes, learning ballet steps and a short ballet dance.
Thursday: Cards and Partner / Music and Movement!

- Craft: Create beautiful and flowing Dance Ribbons!
- Dance: Explore the energy of jazz with shakes, jumps, bounces, and step digs. We'll also enjoy freestyle dancing with colorful scarves and have the chance to try some tumbling moves on the mat.
Grand Finale: Throughout the week, we'll dedicate time to practicing for our exciting Yoga Demonstration and Dance Performance at the end of camp! This will be a wonderful opportunity for our young yogis and dancers to share their newfound skills and creativity with family and friends. Ludington Youth Choir Camp
Ludington Youth Choir Camp
June 16, 2025 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Get ready to make some beautiful music this summer and beyond! The Ludington Youth Choir is thrilled to announce its inaugural summer camp, the exciting kick-off to a year-long choral program, led by the passionate and experienced Elliot Plummer. Students from all surrounding areas, including Scottville, Manistee, Hart, and Pentwater are warmly welcome to join!
A proud product of Ludington, Elliott brings a wealth of musical knowledge and a deep love for working with young people. Having grown up right here in Ludington, attending O.J. DeJonge Middle School and Ludington High School, Elliot went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Music Education (Vocal/Instrumental K-12) from Grand Valley State University. His musical journey began in middle school and blossomed through high school and college, where he actively participated in a wide array of musical ensembles, from bands and orchestras to choirs and musical theater.
"Music is one of the greatest gifts that humanity has been given," says Elliot, "and I can see no better way to spend my life than by sharing the gift of music with young developing musicians. I love working with young people, and I love helping them accomplish what they thought impossible for themselves. This is especially true when it comes to music!"
This exciting summer camp offers a fantastic opportunity for young singers ages 9-13 from Ludington and neighboring communities like Scottville, Manistee, Hart, and Pentwater to:
- Develop their vocal skills in a fun and supportive environment.
- Learn fundamental music concepts and build a strong foundation for the year ahead.
- Explore a diverse range of musical styles.
- Make new friends who share a love for singing and will be part of the year-long choir.
- Experience the joy of creating music together, setting the stage for a wonderful year of singing.
Join us for two weeks of musical fun June 16-20 & 23-27, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM each day. The camp fee is $115, which includes a cool camp shirt and daily snacks! This camp serves as the perfect introduction to the Ludington Youth Choir's year-long program, providing a taste of the musical adventures to come for students from across the region.

All 16 Art-Venture Camps are three-day programs held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9 - 11:30 a.m. Registration is $30 per camp* Register at ludingtonartscenter.org/kids
MUSIC APPRECIATION: BLUES & SEA SHANTIES, A CRESCENDO CAMP w/ Nick Veine of Music Sparks Meaning
This three-day music appreciation camp offers an immersive experience into the world of blues and sea shanties.
Tuesday: Blues Roots We'll focuses on the rich history of the blues, exploring its geographical, historical, and cultural roots, and highlighting its significance as a folk art form in American music. Campers will listen to influential blues artists from the Mississippi Delta and Chicago, gaining an understanding of the genre's evolution. In the afternoon, students will be introduced to the 12-bar blues structure and begin hands-on exploration of instruments like ukuleles, guitars, and banjos, and start crafting their own blues lyrics and melodies.
Wednesday: Blues and Sea Shanties Development We'll build upon the foundation laid on day one, with campers continuing to develop their original blues songs, working individually or in small groups, and receiving instruction on basic chord progressions and song structure. Throughout the camp, participants will learn new songs each day, engage in fun musical games, and develop their ukulele skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Each day will also feature a "Goodbye Song" and a home play assignment to reinforce learning.
Tuesday: Elephant - Ukulele Beginnings Welcome to Uke Zoo!, where we'll embark on a musical adventure with the ukulele! On our first day, we'll get to know each other and the amazing ukulele. We'll learn the basic parts of the instrument, how to hold it, and how to make our first sounds. Through fun games and songs like "Baby Shark" and "Uke Zoo! Theme," we'll explore basic musical concepts and start strumming our way to fun! We'll even learn a new song. Get ready to "Pass the Elephant" and share fun facts about ourselves as we begin our ukulele journey!
Wednesday: Cat - Chord Exploration Today, we'll introduce the C chord, a fundamental building block for ukulele music. We'll review the basics from Day 1, including strumming techniques, and for those ready, we'll even explore up strums. We'll play "Ripple and Splash" to get comfortable with the C chord and learn the importance of "RIGHT, TIGHT, LIGHT" for clear, beautiful sounds. We'll also play "Mary Had a Little Lamb Cat!" and "I'm Walking" to practice our new skills, and play a fun game of "Follow the Leader"!
Thursday: Ant - Dynamics and Teamwork On our final day, we'll learn the Am chord and explore the exciting world of musical dynamics – playing loud and soft! We'll start with a cooperative game of "Musical Chairs" to get our bodies moving and our ukuleles ready. We'll review the C chord and strumming patterns, and then dive into the Am chord with a special chant: "Finger Two not by your TOES, Finger Two up by your NOSE!" We'll play songs like "For Tiny Ants" and "The Ants Go Marching," experimenting with loud and soft playing. Our grand finale will be a game of "Musical Hot & Cold," where we use dynamics to guide our search for hidden ukulele animals!
Get ready to strum, sing, and have a blast at Uke Zoo!

Sharpen your critique skills further and learn how to craft captivating third-person bios. Finally, we'll prepare and practice for the exciting live readings to come!
Wednesday: Finding and Developing Personal Themes What stories lie within you? Today, we'll embark on a fascinating exploration of personal themes – the recurring ideas and emotions that give your writing depth and resonance. Thursday: Ekphrastic Poetry Prepare to see the world with new eyes! Today, we'll explore the intriguing art of ekphrasis – where visual art meets the written word. We'll journey from literal descriptions of physical objects to deeply personal reactions and transformative expressions inspired by art. Through examples from poets like Amy Lowell and Anne Sexton, we'll see how to move beyond simply telling to truly showing your experience of a piece. We'll preview compelling works from Ken Cooper's "Scottville Unframed" exhibit, engaging with pieces like "Encroachment," "Off Street Parking Available," "In Hindsight," "Years of Neglect," and "A View from the Side Door." Get ready to brainstorm adjectives, verbs, and create "sweet" and "bitter" lists to capture your initial impressions. We'll even consider different perspectives – the artist's, our own, and even imagined characters within the art. After an informal discussion, you'll choose a piece that truly compels you and craft your own ekphrastic poem, weaving together literal observations, emotional responses, and imaginative leaps. Volunteers will have the chance to share their poems and receive feedback. Everyone is invited to read their poems for friends and family at 11:30 a.m. in the LACA Performance Hall!

Tuesday: Young Poets Calling all young poets! Today, we'll embark on a journey of poetic discovery. We'll break the ice with introductions and set our creative goals for the week. Get ready for playful activities like "Good Idea, Bad Poem" to spark your imagination! We'll then delve into powerful poetic forms with 5x5 exercises and explore how to transform personal experiences into compelling verse.
