Modern Line Dance w/ Amy Christian
Modern Line Dance w/ Amy Christian
March 7, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Amy Christian, a renowned choreographer and dance instructor, is teaching her beloved Modern Line Dance class at LACA. Amy will be taking a break for November and December and will be back to teach on Thursdays starting Jan. 4.
In this cash-only drop-in class, which costs $10, Amy will teach beginner-level dances from 6-7 p.m. and improver-level dances from 7-8 p.m. Students are encouraged to take both classes to get the full experience. From classic to pop, Latin to country, Bollywood to Irish, Amy creates and teaches unique choreographed line dances to a variety of music genres.
Amy's Modern Line Dance class has been a staple in Ludington for over a year. She started teaching indoors at LACA in October 2022 and moved the class to Legacy Plaza for the summer. Both locations have been in collaboration with LACA. In addition to offering free lessons during the Ludington Sesquicentennial Street Party Celebration in June, Amy led her line dancers in the Freedom Festival Grand Parade on July 4th this summer.
"I find the classes to be a lot of fun. Being outside this summer was awesome, and I have made some great friendships," said Kim Kaines, one of Amy's regular line dance students.
Amy hosts at least one dance social event every month for her Muskegon, Freemont, and Ludington students to practice the dances they have learned. These events include beginner, improver, and intermediate-level dances.
Amy was born in Singapore and grew up in a musical family, performing and competing with her sisters as 'The Christian Sisters.' She has been dancing for over 40 years and has studied hip hop, salsa, flamenco, ballroom, and Lindy Hop. In 2001, Amy discovered line dancing and became hooked. She has competed and won many dance competitions.
For more information on Amy's Modern Line Dance class, visit ludingtonartscenter.org or call 231-845-2787. Follow Amy's public Facebook group Ludington-Let's Dance at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1198649557361389.

Modern Line Dance w/ Amy Christian
Modern Line Dance w/ Amy Christian
March 14, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Budding Naturalist Exhibit Opens Today!
Budding Naturalist Exhibit Opens Today!
March 22, 2024 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Sandcastles Children's Museum, 129 E Ludington Ave, Ludington, MI 49431, USA
There is a new exhibit at Sandcastles called "Budding Naturalist." This exhibit emphasizes the science of Nature. It will feature a Discovery Lab with a microscope that kids can use to study scientific slides to learn more about plants, animals, and insects. It will also feature an interactive, imaginary "Walk in the Woods." Kids will follow a map to find different stations that will teach them more about natural settings using their senses to observe and gather information. For example, one station will have four sound buttons that will allow kids to listen to sounds they might hear in the woods: an owl, a frog, crickets, and coyotes. On another stop they will use their sense of touch to identify natural objects. Each of the senses will be emphasized for observation skills at of the 7 interactive stops.
Sandcastles will be introducing a new character along with the new exhibit. “Fern the Fox ” will help kids learn more about being a naturalist and her representation within the exhibit will invite kids to explore the Discovery Lab, and take the imaginary Walk in the Woods. She will also be featured in three new puppet shows the museum’s Discovery Guides will perform this summer.
The Great Lakes Energy People Fund helped support the new exhibit with a $5000.00 grant to help build it. Can't wait for you to see it!
